Making Jewelry
40Getting Started...
Before you begin making your own jewelry, whether it is for yourself or to sell, do the proper research. Start by visiting as many websites that sell handmade jewelry as possible. Some suggeswtions: www.etsy.com, www.justbeads.com, ebay, and many others.
Once you have decided which type of jewelry you would like to make, you need to purchase supplies. Supplies can be very expensive, but to get started there are a few basics you must have.
Usually beaded jewelry designs are the easiest to get into if your a beginner. Buy your beads online to save money over retail stores but be prepared for shipping costs. Just shop around and buy what you like and what you feel you can work with. I suggest an assortment of natural bone, horn and shell beads. These are usually inexpensive and versatile. They can be used with a variety of styles of jewelry.
You will also need something to string your beads on. Leather cord, synthetic leather cord, rubber cord all make good stringing materials.
